KGBV schools in tamilnadu

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya (KGBV)
KGBV Scheme is being implemented since 2005. The scheme would be applicable only in those identified Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs) where, as per census data of 2001, the rural female literacy is below the national average and gender gap in literacy is more than the national average.   Under SSA-RTE Act, the above criteria is now modified and more EBBs are included on the basis of rural female literacy only. Now 61 residential schools have been set up in these blocks in 12 districts in Tamilnadu. NGOs working in the  field of education and girls empowerment are being involved  in running these  schools.
