educational status of Tamil Nadu

According to the Union ministry of education's Performance Grading Index (PGI), Tamil Nadu among the top five achievers in the key parameters of education such as access, equity, infrastructure and governance processes.

Tamil Nadu has scored 906 points out of 1,000, an increase from 793 points in the previous year.

Also, according India Today’s state of the states survey, Tamil Nadu is the “Best Performing State”.

Tamil Nadu government has recently allocated Rs.119 crores to the government schools under the SSA scheme.

• The schools can use this fund for their maintenance, sanitation, procuring school essentials, and also small repairs.
• The schools can also use these funds for paying electricity and internet bills, for betterment of drinking water facilities in the schools, and purchasing new teaching aids and materials.
• The school education department has directed the schools to mandatorily allocate 10 per cent of the money sanctioned for improving sanitation in the schools and also to spread awareness among students on sanitation.
• The school education department wants the schools concerned to conduct awareness on sanitation once a week.

Also some other noteworthy schemes that have been implemented by the DMK government are:

• Rs. 1000 monthly aid for girl college students.
• Introduced “Samacheer Kalvi” which paves way for quality education to all children without any discrimination based on their economic, social or cultural background.
• Launched “Illam Thedi Kalvi” to keep government school students within the folds of formal education after the disruption during the pandemic period.
• Introduced “Puthumai Penn Thittam” which launched 26 schools of excellence and 15 model schools.
• “Kaalai Unanvu Thittam” for government primary students.
